In 1878, João Manoel Franco planted his first coffee trees on the Pinhal do Campestre farm, one of the pioneers in establishing the crop, which had just arrived in the southern Minas Gerais, today the world's largest producing region.
Favored by the climate, altitude, and volcanic soils, the crops developed well and became the farm's main activity.
Today, in our Sítio Belém, a remnant of that farm, we are the fifth generation producing one of the best coffee in Brazil.
Dulce and Ablandino, Coffee producers
Campestre is a Brazilian city in the state of Minas Gerais (MG) and is part of the 12 cities, demarcated and protected by the Association of Producers of the Coffees from the Volcanic Region (Cafés da Região Vulcânica), one of the most important Brazilian coffee producing regions.
Its climate and its altitude above 4,000 feet favor the planting of coffee, the main economic activity of the city.
We are small producers and work in partnership with other families. Our production is based on the sustainability tripod, seeking a balance between the environment, the social and economic conditions of those involved and the property.
With great zeal and care for the land, the family of farmers, Dulce and Ablandino, has seen their production stand out as one of the best coffees in the region.
In 2021, the coffee produced was announced champion of the contest in Campestre, MG, competing with many other exceptional coffees.
The 1878 Cafés Especiais is produced at 4,000 feet of altitude, which gives it an excellent drink, with balanced notes of sweetness, body and acidity and differentiated nuances of chocolate, toasted caramel, almonds, red fruits and others, reaching SCAA ratings above 85 points.
Hand-picked, 100% Arabica coffee beans are produced and selected from the best cultivars such as Catiguá, Arara, Geisha, among others.
With one harvest a year, between the months of June and September, Sítio Belém produces an average of 600 bags of 60 kilos.

DULCE SOUZA, Coffee producer
I was born and raised at Pinhal Farm, located in Campestre, south of Minas Gerais. I graduated in Dentistry and settled in Botelhos, where I got married and raised our two children. Today, we have two granddaughters. At the same time, we continued and increased coffee plantations on our family land, which began to be cultivated in 1859 and to produce coffee since 1880. Our land is still productive and has plenty of water. We treat this piece of land as something almost sacred, God's creation and a legacy from our parents to us. We respect nature and the people involved in our activity, from production to the consumer. Today, we seek a fair financial return to continue our mission as producers of good coffee.
